Nicodemus Tessin the Elder was an architect, gentleman, and founder of the artistic dynasty that was immensely influential at the Swedish court in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. He was architect to the crown, to the nobility, and to the city of Stockholm, and he supplied buildings for a wide range of functions, from palaces to banks, Tessin, Nicodemus, the Elder (1615–81). Swedish architect and military engineer of French origins. After its successes in the Thirty Years War (1618–48) Sweden became a magnet for artists, and enjoyed a period of considerable activity in creative spheres.

Construction was begun in 1662 by the great Swedish architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder and took several decades to complete. Tessin himself did not live to see the finished palace; however, after his death his son, the equally renowned Nicodemus Tessin the Younger, completed the project. Influenced by French prototype, the palace was built by architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder by commission of Queen Hedvig Eleonora. The splendour of the royal palaces became a way to confirm the power of the monarch. One room that exudes power throughout is Hedvig Eleonora’s State Bedchamber.

The southern tower used to be part of Gustav Vasa's defence fortifications from the 1530s.. 17th century. Around 1630, the mansion was turned into a palace for Lars Sparre.From 1652 to 1670, the palace was rebuilt and expanded by architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder for Count Carl Gustaf Wrangel.After a fire in 1693, the palace was rebuilt and 2012-05-03 2017-11-28 The palace was constructed according to a French prototype by the architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder, by the commission of Queen Hedvig Eleonora. Many royal personages have left their mark on the palace since then. The palace features magnificent salons from the seventeenth, eighteenth, and nineteenth centuries, Borgholm Castle (Swedish: Borgholms slott) in Borgholm, Sweden, is today only a ruin of the fortress that was first built in the second half of the 13th century and rebuilt many times in later centuries. It is linked to Halltorp estate, to the south. The castle was destroyed in a fire on 14 October 1806.
